Description:
youtubeplay v1.0.0.11: YouTube & FLV Player - now works on PPC2003.
youtubeplay is YouTube search/player application which featuring full FLV. Bit like the latest CorePlayer.
It allows you to search for videos in a nice friendly Windows Mobile app and then plays the full FLV video (not miniscule MPEG4 versions) with its own player.
This app can download the FLV videos for offline use and also then extract the soundtrack to an MP3 file.
The app is written in a mixture of .net and C so you need the .net runtime, v2 or v3.5.
The video player overlay is hacked out of TCPMP and the FLV part is based on FFMPEG.
Things planned:
Support for YouTube logons, video uploads, user favorites and better caching/buffering.
Things not planned:
Other video sites.
Known issues:
- Square mode not quite right.
- Other character sets (Chinese etc.) don't work apparently.
- Close button sometimes takes a few pushes.
Everybody should note that this application will eat bandwidth, no consideration has been made for data consumed, so Wifi/ActiveSync or unlimited 3g only, be prepared for a big data bill otherwise. Won't work well on GPRS anyway as FLV vids are quite sizeable.
Update Description:
v1.0.0.11 (24-11-2008):
- New: Fully works on Pocket PC 2003 now, found the horrid bug that stopped it.
- New: Will open and play VP6 (On2) FLV files, slow but should work.
- New: Uses newer version of FFMPEG SVN from a few days ago.
- Fix: Fullscreen should work if you start in landscape mode now.

- New: Added the facility to extract the audio as an MP3 from any saved FLV.
- Fix: HTC Streaming Media option should now work again.
- NOTE: I have now removed any efforts at getting this to work on devices with less than WM5, just wouldn't work.

- Fix: "Failed to get security cookie" message, this was caused by YouTube changes. I have now entirely changed the way this bit works so that it is more like the flash player and should be a bit more resiliant to changes.
- Fix: May work on Pocket PC 2003 devices again, please test.

I feel the interface can be improved to be more finger friendly, and look nicer. Also cannot see comments, cannot remember search, and cannot search by user.

FANTASIC. IMPRESSIVE. But something buggy. I am (was) unable to use the search facility. I cannot pull up my keyboard. The black box of the app is invulnerable. Tried AFTER playing a movie and i worked. Odd. Issue 2: a volume boost would be very helpful. If something has audio recorded too low, a PDA volume control doesnt allow it to be turned up high enough. Perhaps a digital boost to the audio?

The new youtubeplay was very efficient n working fine for about two weeks now it doesn't work at all keeps sayin can't get youtube security cookie. Could u find out the problem I rely on my player.

This is awesome on WM 6.1, little bit harder to close tho. Even tho you can't comment, still beats m.youtube.com. You can also save for quick and easy Rick Rolling on the spot :)

Problems start from the start with this crappy software. I only am told by my machine that it is an "invalid file". Your "minimal requirements" are incredibly misleading. If you fixed that, I might have given this two or three stars.

Works on my sprint-touch. buffers too much though on full screen. works great though on the default smaller screen.

This app is an excellent addition to any Windows Mobile device. Although it still has some somewhat annoying problems (player becomes somewhat unresponsive during searching, player buttons don't always work), it is one of the best things I've put on my new phone thus far. It could use a nicer-looking interface, but I'm not going to complain. It even works on my VGA device! Once this gets the bugs fixed up, consider it 5 stars from me.
